2011 FUS Summer Youth Conference

Quigley Catholic's 4th annual pilgrimage to the Franciscan University Summer Youth Conference was an awesome success! This year's theme was Rooted - to be rooted in Christ. What a simple idea, yet so profound.

Embracing this theme means going deeper than just surface level Christianity. It means getting at the very heart of Christ and letting Christ become the Lord of our hearts. If we truly desire to be rooted in Christ, then our lives will never be the same. Wow! What an awesome God we have, and what a great weekend we had to go deeper in our relationship with Him.

...A special thanks to all the students who make this trip so much fun! And also the energy-filled teachers who give up their summer vacation to make this possible! And last but not least - good luck to those Quigley graduates who came with us for one last awesome experience before hitting the halls of higher education. God bless you guys and don't forget to keep in touch!

2011 March for Life

50 of Quigley's finest young men and women embarked on this annual pilgrimage to our nation's capitol on January 24th, 2011. They fearlessly braved the cold in order to give a voice to those who have been silenced by abortion. With joy in their hearts, these young people are continuing the fight for civil rights for all.

The trip began at QCHS at 2 o'clock in the morning!!! (After the Steelers victory!) The students were in D.C. in time to attend the Mass and rally held in the Capitol Center. Many students commented about how powerful it was to witness Cardinal Wuerl, along with many of his brother Bishops and priests, celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass together.

God is good, and He continues to do amazing things in the lives of these young people. May He be praised now and forever! And let us continue to work for all that is good, true and beautiful.

A special thanks to Mr. Palcsey for all the work and planning that made this event possible, as well as the parents who were willing to spend their day with us. You make this school an awesome Catholic high school! Thanks and God bless.

K-10

The weekend of October 23-24 marked the tenth annual Quigley Kairos retreat. The Lord blessed our weekend abundantly, and I believe that the students participated in an experience that will continue to bear fruit in their lives for many years to come.
It was inspiring to witness so many young men and women come into a deeper relationship with our Lord through fellowship, prayer, and the Sacraments of Confession and the Eucharist.
Our K-10 retreat was led primarily by a group of 12 student leaders, perhaps some of the finest young men and women I've ever known. Many thanks to them and to all who participated in this great event. Live the Fourth!!!

Freshman Retreat

September 14th marked the beginning of another great year of retreats from the students of Quigley Catholic H.S. Our freshman retreat was held at Gilmary Catholic Retreat Center which is like our "home away from home."

The day was filled with laughter and prayer! Students had the opportunity to get to know their new classmates a little better, and also the opportunity to seek our Lord in the silence and serenity which is so common on the beautiful grounds of Gilmary. We also participated in the sacrifice of the Mass which was celebrated by our chaplain, Fr. Chuck Baptiste.

Congratulations Class of 2014! It was great to see you come together as Quigley's newest group of fine young men and women. Keep up the hard work, stay focused, and always remember to give thanks and praise to God!

2010 Vocations Day

On Monday October 11th our senior class took a trip to St. Paul's Diocesan Seminary. Sadly, I forgot to bring the camera, so I can't post any pictures, but other than that the day was a great success.

We took a tour of the seminary grounds, heard a talk from Fr. Joe Freedy on the universal call to holiness and the true nature of love, listened to Holly Joy's talk on marriage and chastity, and heard vocation stories from Sr. Sophia Grace, T.O.R., and Pittsburgh seminarian Anthony Sciarappa.

Thanks to some great weather, we also had the opportunity to play a little frisbee and basketball after lunch.

God is good! And he continues to amaze me with the many blessings that he pours down upon Quigley Catholic High School. Let us always remember to give thanks to God, in the good times and the bad. And let us also remember Bishop Zubik and the Pittsburgh seminarians in our prayers as well.

Great Music...

This past Thursday, Quigley students and faculty had the opportunity to meet and listen to Michael John Poirier. Michael is an internationally known Catholic musician who travels the world to proclaim the Gospel through song, story and prayer.

During second period our chapel was so full that students who came from their study halls sat on the floor and in the hallway to listen to Michael John Poirier's stories and songs. It was truly a blessing to sit before the Tabernacle in the Presence of the Lord and listen to the soul-filled music.

Please visit Michael John's website (www.holyfamilynow.com) and check out some of his latest music. I personally recommend "Ocean of Mercy" but there are many others that are fantastic as well. And take a minute to say a prayer for his apostolate, so that others may be able to share in this great experience.

It was a cold and rainy day in October...

...but the Quigley Spartans ventured into the woods of Western Pennsylvania to conquer their fears.

And they had an adventure that they'll never forget!

Get Ready Class of 2011, ...you're next!

2010 Summer Pilgrimage!

Our trip to the Franciscan University summer youth conference in July was an awesome success.

Despite the lack of a/c in the boys' dorm rooms, a good time was had by all. Many laughs and memories, and most importantly we were all nourished by the Word of God and the sacramental life of the Church. ...plus some late night pizzas!!!

Can't wait to do it again next year!

Great t-shirts thanks to Mr. Palcsey!

Here are a couple shots of the 2010 Quigley conference shirts. The theme was, "The Word Became Flesh." We went with the Latin translation to show the universality of our Catholic Faith!

The Heart of the Christian Faith...

"God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." (1 John 4:16)

These words from Sacred Scripture are the first words of Pope Benedict's encyclical Deus Caritas Est. Let us take them to heart as we begin a new school year, and pray that God, by His love, will transform our hearts and through us, transform the whole world!
